Big thanks to everyone who celebrated World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) with us last week! Our WDSD member features were so popular that we have one more to share. 💛💙

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Isaiah!

Isaiah is a 16-year-old who enjoys spending time with his family and, like any other teenager, being on the computer. His mother, Soleil Santiago, said they try to attend all DSAH events, “if we can, when we can!” Isaiah is a fan of Crazy Socks and softball, and his favorite movie is Frozen.

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Scott!

Scott is an active 34-year-old whose Down syndrome diagnosis was a surprise at birth. At 11 months old, he had surgery to repair a hole in his heart. By the time he was two, Scott’s family had traveled 9,000 miles for him to receive occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech-language therapy, as pediatric services were not available in Leitchfield at the time.

Scott enjoys bowling (on the Wii too!), reading, observing others, and watching Disney Movies and the Price is Right. He loves attending Mass and activities at St. Joseph Catholic Church and supporting his nephews, Luke and Thomas, at their ball games. The three of them like to play games together, including Sorry, Uno, and Yhatzee Jr. Scott also enjoys eating out, especially at Texas Roadhouse and Olive Garden.

A true go-getter, Scott worked at the local hospital for nine years until the COVID-19 pandemic. He misses his job and hopes to return one day.

Scott is an active DSAH member and can be seen at our cooking classes, music therapy classes, and other activities. And, seeing as it's World Down Syndrome Day, he’s probably wearing his favorite Crazy Socks: Sesame Street Bombas socks!

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Olivia!

Olivia is a strong, sassy, and independent 9-year-old. Olivia was adopted, but her parents, Mike and Karen Priddy, were present for her birth - when it was first suspected that Olivia had Down syndrome. Her diagnosis was confirmed with a blood test.

“She was exactly what we needed and God's greatest blessing!” said Karen.

Olivia adores meeting people and greets everyone with a warm hello and hug. She especially enjoys visiting nursing home residents and attending church. She also loves to play with Barbie dolls, cook in her kitchen, play doctor, and dress-up. Her favorite foods are Doritos and Cheerios, and her favorite show is Different Strokes.

Olivia has a strong support system that includes her family, friends, and wonderful team of school staff and therapists. She’s also an active DSAH member who attends music therapy classes, the Buddy Walk, summer camp, and picnics.

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Amelia!

Amelia is a five-year-old whose surprise Down syndrome diagnosis was immediately suspected at birth and confirmed at her one week checkup via genetic testing. Her diagnosis has changed her parents and siblings in every way - yet, not in the ways they were so fearful of during those difficult, early days of trying to figure out what life would look like for the future. She has made them all better people and given them a new perspective on life!

“Down syndrome has opened our eyes and taught us so much about life!” said her mother, Tonya House. “Amelia’s diagnosis and fear of the unknown was so scary, but it has been one of the biggest blessings. I wish I could go back and tell myself that sometimes the best things aren’t planned and that it’s all going to be more than okay!”

Amelia has a huge support network of family and friends, including her parents, older brother and sister, fellow church members, and dedicated therapists and teachers. She’s also active in DSAH, attending family and social events, art classes, cooking classes, and music therapy as her schedule allows.

“We are thankful for the community that DSAH has provided for us and Amelia loves seeing her friends any time she has the chance!” said Tonya.

Amelia enjoys swimming, reading books, watching her siblings play soccer, and vacationing with the family, especially at Disney World or the beach. She likes to watch Cocomelon Lane and the Mario Movie, and her favorite foods are steak, baked potato, broccoli, and popcorn - so much, in fact, that she could eat them and nothing else!

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Kade!

Kade is an 8-year-old who enjoys life every day. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome prenatally and his support system includes his parents, sister, grandparents, uncle, and teachers.

Kade loves going to school and giving hugs to everyone! He likes spending time playing ball, going to church, and attending DSAH programs, including music therapy classes, picnics, social events, and summer camp.

Kade’s favorite movie is Toy Story and his favorite foods are tacos and desserts. He’s also a big fan of his police car Crazy Socks.

DSAH Member Spotlight: Meet Madison!

Meet Madison! Madison was diagnosed with Down syndrome prenatally at 10 weeks, followed by the diagnosis of a heart defect at 20 weeks. She had two open heart surgeries before turning three months old and then went into heart failure, resulting in a heart transplant at 7 months old.

Now 4 years old, Madison is full of personality and sass! She loves to smile and dance, especially when listening to “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift. She also enjoys playing Uno with her family, including her parents and brother, Parker.

Madison’s favorite shows are Blippi and Meekah, her favorite food is Doritos, and her favorite kind of Crazy Socks are rainbow socks. As she gets healthier, she looks forward to participating more in the DSAH toddler group.
